397.7lbs
Yep, for anyone struggling with the maths, that is a gain of 1.6lbs since my last posted wiegh-in and I don’t know how. I know I haven’t been keeping up with recording everything, but I have been tracking my calories everyday and I can’t see where the gain has come from.
We were out at the seaside on Saturday and whilst a gentle walk along the front wouldn’t be an issue for the average person, when you are carrying the weight of 2 full grown men then it can put a bit of stress on your legs, ankles and feet, so I am hoping that there is some swelling there that is contributing to the weight gain. In all honesty, after a long day out I really could not be bothered to cook, and as the kids weren’t a complete nightmare I decided to be lazy and grab a chippy. I didn’t go over the top like I would have done in the past, no large portion of chips, no cheesy chips, no bread and butter, but still, it won’t have been great, and the salt content would have been high which has probably (hopefully) resulted in water retention.
It is going to sound like I am making excuses and clutching at straws now, but on Sunday we had gammon steaks for tea. In terms of calories it wasn’t a bad meal, but with the amount of salt the day before, I am hopeful in saying that I reckon the amount of salt from that meal has added to water retention. It might sound ridiculous, but our regular diet has a relatively low amount of salt, so I think it is safe to say that any drastic short term increase is going to have an impact, but I’m not a nutritionist so I could well be talking a load of rubbish.
When I started getting serious about losing weight I decided to invest in a decent set of scales. I was limited with the options because I needed one that could cope with my weight which most standard scales can’t. I also wanted a scale that would connect to an app so that I had a record of every time I go weighed and didn’t have to rely on manually tracking my weight. Finally, I wanted scales that did more than just your weight, I wanted a breakdown of fat, muscle, bone, water, etc. It wasn’t cheap, but I knew it would be worth it. Seeing the weight gain today has justified the decision because looking into the data I can see that whilst my weight has gone up, my body fat mass hasn’t, but my muscle mass and my water has.
All in all, I am trying to not be too annoyed and remember that my aim is actually fat loss, with weight loss just be the result of that. I would prefer it is my weight didn’t go up, but at least my actualy fat mass hasn’t, and hopefully given a few days I could see a few pounds drop off when swelling and water retention return to normal.
