The Reboot

As a movie fan I feel I am obliged to through in a Reboot, so here it is.

Our Egyptian adventure has been and gone, and I have had a home holiday to recover. When I say home holiday I mean I haven’t done an awful lot, I haven’t been to the gym, and I haven’t stressed about my diet too much. Speaking of not stressing about my diet, the day we got home from Egypt we went straight to bed, and when I got up I had absolutely no intention of cooking, so we had a takeaway. Knowing that it was going to be the last splurge for a while I decided to not worry and just have what I want. I went for a small chicken kebab, and a cheese and bacon pizza burger. It tasted great. No regrets. As yet another example of not worrying about diet, we had one of our Easter eggs early. It was a luxury egg from a chocolate maker that Vikki follows on social media. We had been looking forward to it for ages so decided to have it before getting back to the diet, ignoring the fact that we have a different luxury egg sat on the shelf. Again, no regrets.

When trying to get fit people bang on and on about making sure you get your steps in. This can be easier said than done, unless you are on holiday at a family hot that has 81 slides, 47 pools and 11 themed restaurants. At home I have to make a serious effort to hit 10,000 steps in a day, on holiday I surpassed 20,000 steps more than once. What people don’t take into account when talking about steps is when you are a healthy weight, 10,000 steps is easy, when you weight the same as 2 fully grown men then 10,000 steps does a number on your feet, and 20,000 can be pure misery. Being home I had a goal, do as few steps as possible. Sure, we got a new sofa so I had to be some what physically active to get the old one out and the new one in, but otherwise, my feet have been on holiday since we got back from holiday.

Going forward I am a bit torn on what to do with my diet. On one hand, I don’t have the upcoming holiday as a self imposed deadline to try to lose weight, the only real target date I now have is my 40th birthday, so I could relax a bit, not necessarily intentionally eating more than I was, but just not being so strict with restrictions if I want something, for example if we are near Lidl do I allow myself a fresh pretzel regardless of my other calories for the day… On the other hand, I still have a hell of a lot of weight to lose, maybe I should be using the fact that I’ve just had 2 weeks off from the diet as a boost to kick on with it now. I turn 38 in a couple of weeks, which is probably too soon to have any sensible target. Maybe I could aim for losing a few inches by Christmas. Or, I could just do what I can with the target being to just do what I can. I think for now I’ll just carry on as before, and if inspiration hits me then maybe I’ll impose a target then.

Well, time to get weighed and get back on this journey. Let’s get this party started. Dieting, calorie counting and exercising, yeah baby!
