Monday 23rd February 2026

It’s been a long time since I sat down and did this, so rather than rambling on about excuses and plans and whatnot let’s just get into it.

Breakfast

Not the most nutritious part of the day, but I’ve found that I really like the Fibre One range of bars, whether it’s the brownies or the cookies. They feel like a complete cheat, because they are, but they’re doing my insides some good because I really struggle to find ways to add fibre into our diet so when I can have a chocolate treat with 5+ grams of fibre I count that as a win. I’m in the mood to get up and go this morning, so before that disappears I want to get Darby ready and get out the door, so in order to get going quickly I grab a second bar because 1 just isn’t enough to star the day. 10 grams of fibre for breakfast and I didn’t have to chug down any bran flakes.

Lunch

Tomato soup for lunch. Not just any tomato soup, the best homemade tomato soup in the world. I add a banana and a couple of cored apples (minus a slice that Darby begged for then left on the floor), followed up with a packet of mini cheddars. Nutracheck tells me that is 6.2 portions of my 5 a day.

Dinner

Now it is time for a proper cheat. 90 grams of protein, only 15 grams of fat, and under 800 calories. Bacon and sausage rasher muffins. The closest I can get to a Macdonalds breakfast and still claim to be trying to lose weight.

Snacks

After dinner pudding is a Grenade Creme Egg protein bar. In all honesty, they’re nothing like a Creme Egg, because nothing with the Creme Egg label is like a Creme Egg, unless it is a Creme Egg. CE Oreos? Nope, waste of money. CE Pudding/Trifle? Nothing at all CE about it. There have been a few other things Creme Egg that we’ve tried, and none of them have been worth the calories. The Grenade bar though, whilst not Creme Eggy, is actually really nice for a protein bar.

Drinks

I have a bottle of Lucozade sport, not because I need it but because it had been in the fridge for a few days and I like it. I’ve accounted for it in my calories today so nothing to worry about. After the gym I have a protein shake which adds a bunch of calories as well as an absolute boat load of protein. I also have 2 cups of tea, with a splash of BOB Skimmed milk and a few sweeteners.

Exercise

Walking with Darby can be hit and miss. Sometimes we get a good pace going, other times he wants to stop and sniff EVERYTHING!!! I’m hoping a change of routine and getting him more active can help things so the plan today is for 2 walks. One first thing in the morning and one before the schools kick out. The route we take is roughly 2.15miles, and each time we do it in an hour, give or take a couple of minutes. Not blistering pace, but I try to be mindful that Darby is a sniffer dog and for his wellbeing I need to let him do what he naturally wants to do.

I do an upper-body free weights workout at the gym followed by 10 minutes HIIT on the stationary bike.

By the end of the day I am exhausted, and it is only Monday.
