Welcome, welcome, come on in. This is my blog….wait, we’ve done this before, and one thing I am not doing is starting over, my weight loss journey has had plenty of restarts, it doesn’t need another, this is just a reboot, as in after holiday I need rebooting up the arse to get back on track.
The best way to get back on with it is to fall back on the tried and tested, so breakfat today is… a chocolate porridge pot. Eventually I’m going to change things up a bit for breakfast, maybe I’ll bring the holiday feeling home and crack some eggs to make an omelette, or I’ll trust myself to make a sensible portion of cereal, but for now I’m going tried, tested and controlled. Porridge pot, 263 calories, done.
Having had a couple of weeks where the family have been around all day it was easy to be sensible with what I ate, there were constantly people around who would see what I was eating and hold me accountable. Sure, the kids weren’t going to have a go at me if I sat stuffing my face, but it wouldn’t be the best example for them. Going from that to being on my own during the day has brought back the old struggles, the impulses, thinking I’m hungry when in fact I am just bored. I think one of the biggest hurdles for a recovering fatty is being alone and having no accountability, which is exactly why this blog and my calorie tracking app are so important to me.
Lunch follows the same rules as breakfast, tried and tested, portion controlled, reliable. Again, as with breakfast, I want to be able to get a bit more adventurous with lunch, I want to introduce a bit more variety, but in all honesty, I can’t do that until I can trust myself. I need to know that I can plan a meal, sticking to a calorie budget, and then stick to it when there is nobody else around to hold me accoutable. I don’t know when that is going to happen, so for now I need to focus on getting back into the swing of things, dieting, exercising, writing, I can worry about the next stage when I’ve mastered the current stage. Anyway, getting back on track, Hearty Food Co. Man n’ Cheese for 488 calories.
Getting back into it means also getting back to getting out, with Darby. The weather isn’t incredible, but it will do, so I get Darby into his harness, once he has calmed down, and off we go. As it is our first walk out for a while and I am still feeling a bit stiff I decide to stick to the usual route, using the park to make it a longer walk and to let Darby use his nose. It isn’t the most strenuous of exercise, but it will do, it helps loosen my legs, and Darby enjoys himself. A little under half an hour and 354 calories burned.
Tea comes along and I have to change plans. I haven’t done a proper shop since being home, and I need to order from a few different places to get the stuff that we like, such as HECK. When planning the menu I must have miscounted how much mince I had, so rather than having taco bowls for tea we’re going to have to have something else. I had a few ideas, but every idea I had was a no go because I was missing one ingredient or another. In the end we settled for protein bagels, consisting of HECK sausage rashers, turkey bacon, and eggs. Not the most exciting tea for Vikki after her first day back at work, but it will have to do. I mean, it’s not as though it isn’t yummy, it is perfectly filling and a good option for the calorie budget, it just isn’t particularly WOW as a main meal. Oh well, 824 calories on a tea that felt like I was being very naughty, god bless turkey bacon and chicken sausages.
Finally, after more than 2 weeks off it is back to the gym, and boy can I tell I’ve had that time off, and relatively inactive since being home from Egypt. Everything is stiff, everything feels like it creaks when I move. 45 hard minutes on the bike, HIIT sessions? Not a chance. Luckily, we have to pick up one of the kids after the gym, and we were late getting to the gym, so I don’t have to worry about justifying to myself cutting it short. I manage 20 minutes on the bike across two 10 minute sessions, a bit of strength training and a brisk (by my standards) walk on the treadmill. Not the most taxing of gym sessions, but better to burn off the 476 calories in the gym rather than spending more time sat on our new and incredibly comfortable reclining sofa.
