I made it to day ten, yippee. But seriously, I’m chuffed with this blog so far, whether anyone is reading it or not. The whole point of doing this was to have someway of keeping myself accountable, and it is doing just that. I can’t cheat my diet because what is the point in spending the time doing this if I’m not going to be honest. So yeah, it may only be ten days so far, but I’m happy with how it is going.
Anyway, down to business. I don’t really fancy a porridge pot or breakfast drink this morning, I’ve clocked something on the side, some bagel thins, the pack is open so if they don’t get eaten soon they’re going to end up being thrown away. I’ve had plenty of bacon and sausages the last few days so I won’t go down that route for breakfast. A wam cheese bagel, that’s what we’ll do. I quickly get up my calorie tracking app, NutraCheck, to see if what I plan to have is an acceptable number of calories, and for me it is. I toast 2 bagel thins, slice some cheese, and have a couple of nice warm cheese bagels for breakfast. 591 calories well spent.
The kids are off school today, and as an incentive to behave I promised I would make them a slush using my Ninja Slushi, as long as the weather is nice. It’s not sunny like it has been the last few days, but it is nice enough. Blue raspberry was the request, so I mix the syrup with some water and set the machine going. The kids have theirs, and there is a bit left in the machine so I have some, it’s not a massive amount, but trying to figure out the calories for it isn’t easy, so I just accept that it is what it is, at the very most it would only be a couple of hundred calories, but honestly I don’t think it would be even close to that.
There is a chicken korma ready meal in the freezer, and that is where it is staying because I just can’t stomach it today. Instead I opt for the mac n’ cheese microwave pouches that we get from Tesco. They’re only 200g and 288 calories, so I add some HECK simply chicken chipolatas to bulk it out a bit. It might be a simple lunch but I really enjoy it, especially after that nasty korma yesterday. Adding a pack of puft crisps takes the total for lunch to 491 calories.
Friday is typically date night so we don’t get to the gym, though today date night is being skipped in favour of get ready for holiday night, yay. To try and at least get some exercise in I decide that I’m going to take Darby for a longer walk today. Next time I do that walk I need to put some cotton buds or something up his nose because I swear there were times he was stopping every couple of yards. I tried to be patient with him, it was an unfamiliar walk so there’s lots to explore, with lots of wildlife to sniff, but trying to get the heart rate up isn’t easy when you’re constantly stopping. Eventually we got a good pace going once we were away from the hedges. We stopped about half way to have a little break, it wasn’t hot but it was warm enough and with his little legs it was taking it out of Darby, his lips were hanging like they do when he is all tuckered out. After a few minutes we carried on, powering through until we got home, where Darby went straight for his water bowl, then couldn’t even make it to me to take the harness off (I had already unclipped the lead) or to his bed before he lay down and start snoring. It’s a hard life.
For tea we have one of the meals that has had a few adaptations over time. I’m fat, and believe it or not I didn’t get that way because I love salads. I love food that isn’t good for us, pizza, burgers, hot dogs. For a while Asda were doing some really nice jumbo hot dogs, proper sausages, not frankfurters. Quickly though we realised just how many calories there are in hot dog buns, so we adapted, hot dogs in wraps. What a revelation they were, plonk your hot dog in the middle of the wrap, add any toppings or sauce you might want, we go for some cheese and lettuce, occasionally I might add some bacon, then wrap it up tight. I love these hot dogs and could easily have them a few times a week, but when I got serious about my diet and calorie counting I noticed just how high in calories the jumbo sausages were, and in the interest of not having chips we were having two hot dog wraps. We don’t have the calorie budget for that, so time to adapt again. HECK Chicken Hot Dog Wraps, that’s the way to go. Now they are low in calories, high in flavour, and i can enjoy them without feeling guilty or worrying about my diet. 2 hot dog wraps for 682 calories, cha-ching.
