Things Are About to Get CREAMi

OK, that title may be a bit iffy, but let’s just roll with it. For those not in the know, the CREAMi is the Ninja ice cream maker. Personally I don’t think it is as exciting as the Slushi, which is quite possibly one of my favourite gadgets ever, but it is a close second.

On the surface an ice cream maker whilst trying to lose weight is not necessarily a sensible purchase, but, hear me out, homemade healthy ice cream. Believe it or not, it is absolutely possible to make low calorie ice cream that tastes great. Anyway, it’s not my fault, having looked at the CREAMi, a LOT, Vikki and I decided that we probably wouldn’t get one, but then the weather turned stupid and rather than saying no Vikki asked where would we put it, which I took as “yes buy it right this second before the deal disappears”, and now we have a CREAMi on the kitchen side next to the Slushi.

When the CREAMi first came out I was taken a bit by surprise, not by how good the reviews were, it’s a Ninja after all, they have a reputation for a reason. No, what surprised me was that it was just families with youngish kids buying it, fitness fanatics were becoming obsessed with ice cream. Suddenly every other fitness related account on social media was posting their latest protein ice cream recipe. There are now a lot of high protein recipes out there, but a lot of them are also relatively high in calories. For the average person the calories may not be too much of a problem, but for someone trying to lose ~200lbs every calorie counts, and whilst protein is important, right now I am more interested in losing weight, I’ll focus on protein and getting my Mr Olympia body later. Anyway, my point is that whilst there are “healthy” recipes out there, there aren’t as many weight loss recipes, which means I get the joy of trial and error until I settle on a good base recipe to just add flavouring too. We tried one recipe yesterday and as far as consistency, texture, and everything but flavour it was great. Now I just need to work on getting a good flavour, for minimal calories.

And just like that the weather takes a turn, dropping around 8 degrees, sky full of clouds and rain in the air. Oh well, ice cream in the rain it is because the way the CREAMi works has already beaten up my need for instant gratification, if I wait for another hot day it will end up on life support. So, consider this fair warning to you all, this blog is about to get CREAMi, because calories are calories, right? It doesn’t matter what form they’re in, so, ice cream for breakfast?
